Who We Support
Connecting with, and supporting organizations doing great work in our communities is always so meaningful and rewarding and is the backbone of planning this annual Fall home tour. It is our pleasure for the 2019 Our Village Home Tour to be raising funds for the great work of:
Big Brothers Big Sisters in Centre Wellington
Our local partner is Big Brothers Big Sisters in Centre Wellington. Many young people find themselves in vulnerable situations and facing adversities such as mental health issues, family violence, identity issues or poor living conditions, which put these youth at risk of not reaching their full potential. With the guidance and support of a mentor, these risks can be avoided, and these young people can gain the confidence to achieve more – higher incomes, happier lives, more contributions to their communities. Our mentors advise and challenge these young people, act as their champions, provide greater consistency in their lives, connect them to broader experiences, opportunities and networks, and provide safe, nonjudgmental environments in which the child or youth can confide anything.
Our local partner in Guelph is Michael House, providing a safe place for more than 275 women and babies over the last 16 years. It is Michael House’s goal that all mothers who turn to them will find the resources and encouragement they need to help them build successful futures for themselves and their children. Michael House is a local charity in Guelph that provides shelter and support for pregnant and parenting women in the community. Since 2003 Michael House has grown from a humble three-bedroom house to a six-bedroom residence offering space to young women and their babies. Michael House opened an additional eight supportive housing apartments in 2015 and is now able to assist even more women and children make the critical transition to independent living in the community.
